FAQ

Getting your books

How does this work?

Add what you'd like to your cart and check out. You'll get two emails: a receipt from the shop, and a separate email from BookFunnel with your download link. Paperbacks are printed to order and posted to you — more on that below.

How do I get my ebook or audiobook?

Your books are delivered by BookFunnel, which handles the technical side so you get a file that actually works on the device you own. Shortly after you order, you'll receive an email from help@bookfunnel.com with a link. Click it, choose your device, and BookFunnel walks you through the rest.

You have 14 days to download your files. If that window passes, you can request a fresh link — nothing is lost.

I didn't get my download email. What now?

First, check your spam or promotions folder for a message from help@bookfunnel.com. If it isn't there, go to bookfunnel.com/help and their team will sort it out for you, usually within a few hours. They're genuinely good at this, and they can help faster than I can.

Will the books work on my device?

Yes. BookFunnel delivers the right format for whatever you're using — Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Apple Books, an Android phone, an iPad, or a plain computer. You don't need to know which file type you want; you just pick your device from a list and follow the instructions on screen.

Is there an app?

There is, and it's free. The BookFunnel app keeps every book you've bought from me in one library, remembers where you left off, and lets you set the font and spacing however you like. It's the easiest option if you'd rather not think about files at all — and it's the only place your audiobooks will play.

Will my audiobook show up in my Audible library?

No — and this trips people up, so I want to be clear about it before you buy. Audible only holds books bought from Audible. An audiobook you buy here is yours to keep and listen to in the free BookFunnel app, which works on your phone, tablet, or computer. If having it inside Audible matters to you, buy that title on Audible instead. I'd rather tell you now than have you disappointed later.

Who narrates the audiobooks?

Almost all of my audiobooks are read by a virtual voice rather than a human narrator. It's clear, steady, and easy to listen to, and it means I can put far more of my catalogue into audio than I could otherwise afford to. But it isn't a human performance, and I'd rather you knew that before you spend your money than be surprised in chapter one.

Where to start

I'm new here. Where should I begin?

Pick the shelf that sounds like your kind of evening:

Every collection is arranged in reading order, so the first book on the shelf is the one to start with.

Are your series finished, or will I be left hanging?

Every series in this shop is complete. You can read straight through without waiting a year for the next one, and without hitting a cliffhanger that hasn't been resolved yet.

Do you have any free books?

I do. Join my newsletter and I'll send you a free book — the best way to find out whether we get along before you spend anything. Pick the genre you'd like to start with:

You'll also hear from me when there's a new release or a sale, and you can unsubscribe any time.

Paperbacks

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, worldwide. My printer has presses in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, so a book ordered in Manchester is usually printed in Britain rather than flown across an ocean. Postage stays reasonable and delivery is quicker than you'd think.

Customs duty or import tax, if your country charges it, is yours to pay — same as any international order.

How long will my paperback take?

My paperbacks are printed to order, so allow 3 to 5 working days for printing, then normal carrier time on top. You'll get tracking once it's moving.

It's slower than a warehouse would be. The trade-off is that your copy has never sat on a shelf getting shopworn — it's printed for you.

How much is shipping?

It's calculated at checkout from your address and your order, and you'll see the exact figure before you pay. I don't offer free shipping — I'd rather charge real postage than bake it into every book price and have readers close by subsidising the ones further away.

My book arrived damaged or the wrong title came.

Tell me and I'll either replace it or refund you, whichever you'd prefer. Send me a note through the contact page with your order number and, if it's damage, a quick photo. No need to send the damaged copy back.

Do you sell signed copies?

Not at the moment. My paperbacks are printed to order and posted straight from the printing works, which means they never pass through my hands for me to sign. Doing signed copies would mean buying and storing stock myself — a different undertaking altogether. If you'd like it anyway, say so on the contact page; the more people ask, the more seriously I'll look at it.

Returns and refunds

Can I return an ebook or audiobook?

No. Once a digital file has been delivered it can't be returned, which is why I keep free samples and free starter books available — please use them to make sure a book suits you before you buy. If something has actually gone wrong with your file, that's a different matter entirely, and I'll fix it.

Can I return a paperback?

If it arrived damaged or I sent the wrong book, yes — see above, and I'll replace or refund it. Otherwise I can't take returns on paperbacks that arrived in good condition: every one is printed specifically for your order, so there's no shelf for it to go back onto.

If you're in the UK or the European Union, consumer law gives you more than that and it takes precedence — you have 14 days from receiving a physical order to cancel for any reason. Return postage is yours unless the book arrived damaged. The full detail is in my refund policy.

Buying here vs. elsewhere

Why buy direct from me instead of Amazon?

Because you own what you buy here. When you buy a Kindle book, you aren't buying the book — you're buying permission to read it. Amazon's own Kindle Store Terms of Use put it plainly: "Kindle Content is licensed, not sold, to you by the Content Provider." That licence can be ended if Amazon decides an account has broken its terms, and in February 2025 Amazon removed the option to download your Kindle books and keep them on your own computer. A book you buy from me is a file you keep, in your own library, on your own devices, for as long as you want it.

Because it tells me what you actually want. When you buy from a retailer, I find out months later in a royalty report that tells me very little. When you buy here, I can see which series readers are reaching for — which means you're effectively voting on which book I write next. Buying direct brings you one step closer to me, and it genuinely shapes what gets written.

That said, if buying on Amazon is simply easier for you, please do. I'd rather you read the book.

Can I still get your books from the usual retailers?

Yes — Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble and Google Play all carry my work. If you prefer to read in the Kindle app or the Apple Books app with no extra steps, buying there is the simpler path.

Still stuck?

My question isn't answered here.

Email me through the contact page. If it's a download or device problem, bookfunnel.com/help will get you sorted faster than I can — they do this all day and they're very good at it. Anything else, I'm happy to hear from you.
